Therapy | Ongoing OT Support for CYP

Therapy & ongoing support

Goal-focused therapy to build skills, confidence and independence

Types of therapy support

Therapy at Sensphere is flexible and adapts to each child or young person's needs. We offer:

Individual therapy sessions

One-to-one sessions focused on specific goals, typically 45-60 minutes. These may take place in a clinic, at home or at school.

Blocks of intervention

A series of sessions (often 6-12 sessions) focused on a particular area, with clear goals and regular review.

Home and school programmes

Practical strategies and activities that families and schools can carry out between sessions to support progress.

Example therapy goals

Therapy goals are always set collaboratively with families and, where appropriate, the child or young person. Examples include:

Daily living skills

Dressing independently, managing mealtimes, following morning or bedtime routines

Handwriting and fine motor

Developing pencil grip, letter formation, scissor skills and tool use

Attention and learning

Supporting focus, organisation and participation in classroom activities

Our therapy approach

Our therapy is child-led, collaborative and practical:

Child-led

We follow the child or young person's interests and work at their pace, using activities they enjoy.

Collaborative

We work closely with families and schools to ensure strategies can be carried over into everyday life.

Practical strategies

Our recommendations are realistic and achievable, designed to fit into existing routines and environments.

Review and ending

We regularly review progress with families and adjust therapy goals as needed. Therapy may pause or end when:

Goals have been achieved and the child or young person is managing well
A break is needed to allow time for skills to consolidate
The family feels confident to continue with strategies independently

We're always happy to discuss returning for further support if new needs arise or circumstances change.

Common questions about therapy

One-to-one therapy sessions are 50 to 60 minutes, focused on the goals we agree together at the start.
We typically recommend a block of 3 or 6 sessions to give space for sustained progress. Each block ends with a review summary so we can discuss what's working and decide what to focus on next.
Every session includes practical strategies you can try at home or at school. Parents and carers are usually involved in sessions where appropriate, so the work carries over into everyday routines.
Progress is measured against the goals we agree at the start — usually a mix of how the child experiences the activity and what families and teachers notice in daily life. We don't rely on a single score.
