Occupational therapy for schools

Supporting SENCOs, teachers and pupils across the UK

Supporting children in their school environment

Schools and SENCOs can refer children and young people directly to Sensphere. We offer OT support designed around the school context - from in-class observations to full assessment reports for EHCP work. We are used to working alongside school teams and can adapt our involvement to fit your processes.

What we offer schools

School observations

In-school observations to understand how a pupil participates in their learning environment, with verbal or written feedback.

Assessment reports

Full OT assessment reports suitable for EHCP applications, annual reviews, and school support planning.

Staff consultations

One-to-one or small group sessions with teachers and support staff to share strategies for specific pupils.

EHCP support

Assessment and reports that provide functional occupational therapy evidence for Education, Health and Care Plans.

How our reports support EHCP applications

Our OT assessments are written to support the needs assessment process. We focus on functional impact, participation in school life, and practical recommendations that can be understood by families and education teams.

  • Functional assessment of how a pupil manages everyday school activities
  • Sensory processing profile and its impact on learning and participation
  • Fine motor, handwriting and tool-use assessment where relevant
  • Clear, practical recommendations for school and home
  • Reports suitable for EHCP requests, annual reviews, and wider planning

What a typical school engagement looks like

  1. 1

    Initial contact

We start with a short conversation to understand the pupil, the school's concerns, and what outcome you need.

  2. 2

    Consent and information gathering

With parental consent in place, we review background information and clarify the focus of the work.

  3. 3

    Observation or assessment

We visit the school setting or arrange an assessment pathway, depending on which route will provide the most useful evidence.

  4. 4

    Feedback and report

We share findings clearly and provide practical recommendations for school staff and families.
